New group – MindSpace Makers

New group – MindSpace Makers

30 December 2020

‘Making with our hands stills the mind, it is a satisfying, motivational, joyful activity of creating something beautiful’

MindSpace Makers offers an opportunity to come together to create while learning new skills and sharing knowledge and experience with others. Making together provides a safe space for quiet conversation where thoughts, views and attitudes can be explored without confrontation. It is also a space to have some fun and take pleasure in what we are doing.

Makers may bring their own projects to work on or work collectively to create something of common interest. Makers may also work on community projects to highlight themes or promote societal change.

Our first collective project will be to create a knitted blanket (crochet may be included). In our first meeting we will talk about the ‘theme’ of the blanket, what messages do we want to portray within the stitches we create. What is the symbolism of a ‘blanket’ and how will we use it when it’s finished.  Then, together we will design the blanket by choosing the colours, stitches and motifs we will use to convey our messages. We will select techniques appropriate for beginners as well as more experienced knitters and support each other to develop and improve our skills. Everyone’s contribution will be valued without criticism or judgement.

The current Covid situation requires that we keep ourselves safe and so at the present time all our sessions will be online. We are all new to meeting in this way and will learn together how to do it and no doubt make many mistakes along the way.

Date: Every Thursday starting 14th January, 2pm – 4pm

Facilitator:
My name is Julie Lunt and I am very excited to be crafting with you at the Makers Group. I am now retired, I worked supporting people with disabilities for many years promoting person-centred practices, self-advocacy and self-determination. I love to craft and grow things and knitting is my passion.
