Seed Swap event at MindSpace community garden encourages people to get outside this spring and enjoy nature
The MindSpace Wellbeing Garden team will be hosting a Seed Swap event at the garden on Saturday March 29th from 10am – 12noon… so get planning that spring/summer garden you’ve been dreaming about during the long, cold winter months!
Bring along any packets of seeds or young plants you may have sitting around and swap them in to take advantage of the huge variety of plants, seeds and seedlings on offer from donated and cultivated stock at the Wellbeing Garden. Also available (at no cost) are a selection of gardening books to take away, plus free tea, coffee and cake for all visitors.
Garden Lead Kay says ‘It’s a great chance for people to pop along and get some new inspiration for their green space or windowsill, pick up some new seeds or young plants and visit our beautiful space at the same time.
‘Sometimes you need a bit of encouragement to kickstart your cultivation plans and now is the perfect time of year to get started! Swap in anything you’ve got lying around at home for some radiant rain lily seeds or a vibrant verbena seedling at no cost, get planting up and enjoy watching them grow.’
Chris Young, MindSpace Garden trustee, is keen to stress the emotional and mental health benefits of being in the outdoors and engaging with nature. ‘Connecting with nature benefits us all hugely, being outside in the fresh air can reduce stress and anxiety levels and improve mental health and emotional wellbeing in all people. MindSpace’s overarching aim is to improve the wellbeing of everyone in our town, and our Garden is the perfect place for this to happen.
‘We are really excited about doing this Seed Swap at the Garden, and are looking forward to meeting lots of new people with an interest in growing and gardening. Everyone is welcome though… you definitely don’t need to be an expert to come along!‘
As well as the Seed Swap on 29 March, The Wellbeing Garden also runs weekly sessions, with a Help Out session between 1 and 4pm every Monday, Family Friendly Hour on Friday between 11am – 12noon (kids welcome to this one – feel free to pack a picnic and stay after the end of the session to enjoy the space for a little longer!) plus a Friday Tea & Chat for grownups between 1 – 2.30pm.
The Garden is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone to visit and enjoy its beautiful and peaceful environment. It is located at Uffington Road allotments, Uffington Road, Stamford PE9 2HD, with the allotment entrance just opposite Mole Valley. What3Words location is saving.toward.fruit.
