Cooking with Confidence helps feed families on a budget
Learn to cook nutritious, delicious meals for less with MindSpace and Second Helpings
MindSpace is launching a new six-week cookery course, Cooking with Confidence, designed to help local residents build confidence in the kitchen, learn basic cookery skills, and discover how to prepare nutritious meals on a budget.
During the six weeks, those who sign up will get to learn basic food hygiene, how to prepare the ingredients, and create a range of healthy meals that they can enjoy socially with the rest of the group.
In the past, participants have learned how to cook simple dishes such as soups and smoothies, to more complex meals such as curry, enchiladas, fish pies, and roast dinners.

Charities unite to help teach cookery skills
MindSpace will be partnering with the charity, Second Helpings, who will be providing some of the ingredients for those attending to cook with, helping to cut costs and reduce waste food. The course is also part funded by Stamford Action and NISA.
Sophie Driver, a nutritional therapist who leads the course says: ‘Cooking with Confidence teaches you how to turn cheap food into something nutritious. In the past, we have had people such as widowers wanting to learn the basics, and people wanting to understand more about nutrition for their family. We look at reducing waste, saving money and cooking healthily. We don’t use complicated recipes and people love the social aspect of eating together afterwards when there is time for chat and connection.’
Cooking with Confidence starts on Tuesday 8th September, 5-7pm at the Barn Hill Methodist Church Hall.
There is a cost of £25 for the full six-weeks to cover the running the course and the extra food required to make all the meals. This is payable on booking.
