Getting active with Miles for MindSpace
MindSpace is launching a new fundraiser aimed at getting people walking, and outside moving, while raising money to support mental wellbeing.
‘Miles For MindSpace’ encourages everyone to clock up their miles throughout May with this initiative championing the mental and physical health benefits of getting outside, being in nature, doing exercise, and committing to a challenge.
The fundraiser launches ahead of May’s National Walking Month and hopes people will experience the proven improvements to health and wellbeing walking can offer including heart and joint health, more energy, better sleep, and improved mood.
Why support Miles for MindSpace?
The money raised through people signing up to Miles For MindSpace will go directly to the charity, funding our work providing activities and listening support for the more than 200 people who walk through our door each month. Every adult entry funds half an hour of listening support, keeping our door open and kettle on for people who need us.
People and Operations Manager at MindSpace, Pip Tiffin says: “We are really delighted to be launching Miles for MindSpace as we understand how much walking and getting outdoors can provide a big boost to our mental wellbeing. By signing up to take part, people will not only be improving their own physical and mental health, but helping us to raise money to continue the life-changing support we can offer to those who need a listening ear and a safe space to come and talk or enjoy an activity.”
“We are incredibly lucky in this area that we have so many scenic routes on our doorstep. We hope that by taking part, people will also start to appreciate the local beauty around us and get to know some new favourite spots to explore.”

How to take part
Miles for MindSpace is a fun initiative where you can challenge yourself, and others, to see how many miles you can do in May. You can walk, run or cycle your miles – how you do them is up to you.
It is a chance to plan some routes, discover new places, and set yourself a goal of how many miles you do. There is no requirement for sponsorship. Your entry fee contributes to the fundraiser.
MindSpace is also teaming up with The Langdyke Trust for a walk through John Clare countryside on Thursday 14th May, taking in the Nene and Welland Valleys. This will be a good opportunity for people wishing to take part in an organised walk and get some miles in.
There are also opportunities each Thursday afternoon with the MindSpace weekly walk.
You can enter ‘Miles for MindSpace’ as an individual or a family, and businesses and schools can also enter groups who might want a fun fitness challenge. The cost to enter is £17.50 for an individual and £12.50 for under 16s. There are special rates for schools and businesses.
Sign up online to receive your entry pack and regular motivation and inspiration with suggested walks and ideas from local experts. You will also be invited to the ‘final mile’ at the end of May, finishing at The MindSpace Wellbeing Garden with refreshments and a medal.
